Highlights and Products From Golden Globes and PETA Events

Secret Room Events Golden Globes and PETA Style Lounge Gifts Great Pet and People Products

It was an exciting week in Los Angeles, as the entertainment awards season is in full swing and there’s a notable energetic uptick in the air. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s highly watched Golden Globe Awards was held this past weekend at the Beverly Hills Hilton.  To generate industry buzz about ‘the Globes’ there have been a series of pre-awards parties and gifting events; one of which I was invited to as a member of the pet media.

The glamorous SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills played host to the Secret Room Events Golden Globes and PETA Style Lounge.  I’m sure you’ve heard of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals(PETA), as it’s the world’s largest animal rights organization having over 3 million members and affiliates.  My client, Jane Lynch, and her dog, Olivia, even did a public service announcement to promote population control through spaying and neutering of our companion canines and felines (instead of leaving them sexually intact and capable of reproducing).  This is a crucial topic in the realm of animal welfare, as shelter-based euthanasia is the number one cause of death in dogs and cats in the United States.

According to PR Newswire, “PETA focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry. We also work on a variety of other issues, including the cruel killing of beavers, birds, and other “pests” as well as cruelty to domesticated animals. PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement, and protest campaigns.”

I’ve previously been to similar gifting lounges at events like BlogPaws, but I’ve never experienced one so glamorous as that put on by Secret Room and PETA.  I was extra excited for this Golden Globes event, as Cardiff was able to accompany me and personally stamp his paw of approval on the products that intrigued him.  As Cardiff was just a few days out from having his first chemotherapy treatment for lymphoma, I had to make efficient use of our time in the busy environment of the gifting lounge.

As soon as we walked in, Cardiff and I whisked towards the pet products.  Cameras swarmed in from all sides to catch a photo of him comfortably posing on the Vivon pet bed (thank you for the bed, as Cardiff looks forward to hours of luxurious sleep in his future). Sealy had both Cardiff and me sit on their largest Sealy Dog Bed for a series of photos as well.

Of my highlights was meeting the folks from Organic Oscar and getting familiar with their products. The foods and water our pets consume and the products we apply to their skin surface can greatly impact the overall state of health.  So, I always strive to prioritize what is safe and healthy for my patients (learn about my own eye opening experience in Have You Been Bathing Your Pet With a Cancer Causing Shampoo?).

It’s great to learn of a company’s shared vision to keep pets clean in a non-toxic way. As I have many geriatric patients that tend to collect urine or fecal material around their orifices, I look forward to using their Pet Wipes with Organic Aloe Vera.  The Organic Oscar blog  shows a variety of celebrities posing with their products at the event.

Cardiff was intrigued by the Wobble Ball as featured by Pet Lifestyle and You (P.L.A.Y.). It’s a novel means of making your pooch to utilize his problem-solving skills and exert some effort in order to achieve the goal of a food treats.  After all, a treat should be given as a reward for good behavior and not just because they are available and your pooch wants one!  Make him work for it, and burn some calories in the process!

Once my gift bag was full of the above pet products and some intriguing offerings for people, we made our way out of the event.
